Meet the School Board: Jennifer Davis

Jennifer Davis is a lifelong resident of Elkhart County who believes every child should have access to quality education.

“All children should have an opportunity to reach their full learning potential in a safe and caring environment,” Davis said.

Davis credits the opportunity to spend time in her children’s classrooms when they were young as her inspiration to give back to her community as a school board member. She was elected to the board in November 2014 and took office in January 2015.

“It truly gave me an understanding that all children do not have the home support that I wished every student would have,” Davis said, recalling her time as a classroom volunteer, SOAR volunteer, and PTO member and past president at Concord South Side Elementary. “All students need the love and support of our community.”

Davis graduated from Goshen High School in 1983 and obtained her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University (Ohio) in 1987. She is employed at Indiana Wood Products in Middlebury, as corporate treasurer.

She and her husband, Wes, who is a senior electrical engineer at I/N Tek in New Carlisle, moved into the Concord Community Schools district in 1998 when their oldest daughter started kindergarten.

They have two children: Hannah, a 2011 Concord graduate who now teaches middle school language arts, and Emily, a 2013 Concord graduate who works in marketing.

In her time on the board, Davis described the challenge of supporting a school district while coping with limited financial resources from the state.

“Our state legislature places a lot of financial constraints on local school boards, and they (the state) expect a lot of results despite limited resources they provide us,” she said. “I have been proud to serve with my fellow board members these past four years. They are people of integrity and passion for our students and staff.”

Beyond her school board service, Davis serves as treasurer of the Well Foundation, is a member of Tri Kappa, and attends Dunlap United Methodist Church.

She enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, reaching, fishing, tennis, swimming, and attending Concord athletic events and performances with her husband.

“Concord Community Schools provides an abundance of opportunities in academics, sports, performing arts, and extracurricular activities for all students,” she said. “We are continually focused on improving academic achievement and meeting the needs of all of our students.”
